Drug allergies - Why do I still have hives over 2 weeks later? |
I was taking doxycycline (antibiotic), the first night after taking it I remember my legs feeling itchy at night. But no hives. After 3 days small hives started appearing only on my arms. I spoke to my doctor on the phone who advised me to stop taking it immediately. She also mentioned benadryl can help stop the breakouts. If it is an allergic reaction, the reaction will continue until all of the substance is out of your system. And in my experience the hives will go away when they want to. Sometimes I've had them go away overnight and other times it takes weeks or months. Benedryl will help with the redness and itchiness but can't completely cure them, unfortunately only time will do that. that's interesting. i'm currently having the exact same symptoms and it has also lasted ro more than a week. did you ever find any relief? Report It Something more is going on so go see the doc to find out what it is. go get a blood test =it should tell you what are causing the hives the drug may have a long half life and take a while to get out of your system, if things get worse contact your doctor! |
