Help with hives?

about 8 months ago I started getting bad hives. It started with one on the bottom of my foot and then my stomach, my hands and my face. I would get two hives at a time in these different areas. They would get to be the size of plates sometimes. I would go to the hospital and they did not know what was causing them. I had not tried any new foods nor was I on any medication. I was however in an abusive marriage which I have left recently. My mom called me today and said that she has hives in the exact same places I did. My sisters wedding is this weekend and my mother has agoraphobia (it is a fear of crowds). Do you think hives can be stress related? Has anyone else ever done this? I never could get a straight answer from my doctors.

Hives can be caused by stress and/or allergies. I tend to break out in hives (but just small patches all over), which tend to go away after the stressful situation has resolved itself. If they itch, you can you Benadryl spray, which (thankfully) doesn't make you sleepy as it's just topical.

Good luck! Hives can be a pain, but sometimes we have to just learn to relax. Another idea would be if you seem to get them frequently AND are under lots of stress, you could see a doctor for perhaps a short-course of anti-anxiety meds.
