Breaking out in hives?

It was completely random. Yesterday I delivered a 10 pie to the hospital on base. I went around to where the surgery was and I asked for a cart so I put the pizza and the case of coke on it, it was pretty heavy.

Well, as soon as I touched that cart and the hotbags, I started getting real itchy and had some nausea.

As soon as I got into my car, all I see is hives everywhere on my right arm. The hives weren't anywhere else, just my right arm. Then the nausea got worse, but went away and hasn't come back since. Just a few minutes ago, it started itching again. I haven't been itching it and they've slowly been getting bigger.

I have no other symptoms but the itching itself. I don't want to have to make an unwanted trip to the ER for something that can easily be cured at home and isn't life threatening.

I've washed my hands and arms well, and calamine lotion doesn't work.

That kind of reaction can get worse if it happens again, so you might want to see about getting an Epi pen for the future. Maybe get allergy tested while you're at it. It's not so bad.

There may have been some kind of harsh chemical (for cleaning?) on the cart that really irritated your system. Keep Benadryl in your system until the hives go away. Good luck!

Take an antihistamine and go see your doc.

if its an allergy try benedryl, and since it is getting worse, just go to the doctor!!

Since it has been a day, you are out of the woods. Now you are just dealing with the aftermath of the allergic attack. Instead of using calamine lotion, try Caladryl. It is Benadryl and Calamine lotion all together. It works to stop the itching. You can take an oral antihistimine, but if you do, you can't use the Benadryl. Since you were at a hospital, there is no telling what was on the cart. It could have been latex or even pollen from flowers. The nausea is interesting, as that is not a typical allergic reaction. It could just be coincidence
