I am so sick of having hives...anyone else had hives?

I've had hives for about 4-5 weeks now. I got them in a hypersensative reaction to taking Amoxycillin for strep throat, and they won't go away. I've taken prednisone and antihistamines, but they are only a temporary fix. Has anyone else had hives? How much longer with I have them? I'm so sick of them!

I am an idiopathic chronic hiver who has had them since 2000. They went into "remission" for a little while which essentially meant I only had a "few" (like 50-100) little ones instead of them covering my whole body. Because mine are idiopathic, they do not know what the cause of them is or was. Over the years, I have been on many cocktails of medications, but the doctors have managed them better since 2005 with the medication combination they have me on currently. I completely understand how frustrated you are with them and really hope and pray you aren't going to have them for the long term. Probably, you won't have them for too much longer because you know what caused them and that they are an allergic reaction. Yeah I've had them before once. I had no idea what they were but they itched so bad!! I went to a drug store place and asked the pharmacist what I should do, she recomended an anti-hystamine and some aveno oatmeal lotion to stop the itching. Mine went away after 2-3 days.
