I have been told histoplasmosis is the same as HIV dose anyone know if this is true or false?

no its not the same...Histoplasmosis [his-toh-plaz-MOH-sis] is a fungal infection that varies in symptoms and seriousness.
Histoplasmosis usually affects the lungs and causes a short-term, treatable lung infection. When it affects other parts of the body, it is called disseminated histoplasmosis. Disseminated histoplasmosis can be fatal.
The histoplasmosis fungus lives in soil, especially soil that is enriched with bat or bird droppings.
People get histoplasmosis when they breathe in dust that contains the fungus.
Histoplasmosis is treatable with fungus-killing medicines.
To prevent histoplasmosis: 1) avoid exposure to dust from soil that might be contaminated with bat or bird droppings, and 2) avoid disturbing accumulations of bat or bird droppings. the aids virus may be passed from one person to another when infected blood, semen, or vaginal secretions come in contact with an uninfected person鈥檚 broken skin or mucous membranes*. In addition, infected pregnant women can pass HIV to their baby during pregnancy or delivery, as well as through breast-feeding. People with HIV have what is called HIV infection. Some of these people will develop AIDS as a result of their HIV infection.

they are totally different diseases

That is FALSE.

HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus. Being infected with HIV makes you suscepible to other infections, one of which is histoplasmosis.

I agree with pangolin.HIV is a virus caused disease, while histoplasmosis is fungal.

Histoplasmosis is a fungal infection that attacks the lungs, but can spread to other parts of the body if the person has a compromised immune system. It is not the same as HIV, but can be fatal in people with HIV. Hope this helps.

Histoplasmosis is caused from inhaling spores from the fungus, it is usually found in the soil were large amounts of bird droppings are, it can affect different parts of the body such as your eyes or lungs. It is NOT HIV/AIDS, although it is more common in people that have compromised immune systems. And it is treatable with certain anti fungal medications. See your doctor or get a second opinion.

NO, not even close! Histoplasmosis is a degenerative lung disease caused by a toxic bacterium that comes from bird or bat droppings. It's fairly rare these days, and I think there's medication for it.
