Hip replacement help?

i broke my right hip when i was 15 and had to have pins put in place and therefore have one leg shorter then the other.. Now that im 22 i'm starting to suffer from alot of pain and am now considering on having a hip replacement. My question is can they help in anyway by making my shorter leg the same lenth as my other leg.

sorry if this is not very clear but just serious answers please!

You are very young for a hip replacement. Have you investigated the possibility of having your hip resurfaced? This procedure is now being performed in the US since the recent FDA approval of the device used. If you qualify this might be a possibility for you. See the links below for more on the subject from a website developed by an ortho surgeon as a service to patients. It appears in (slightly fractured) English translation and is an excellent source of information for would-be hip patients.

As for the leg length issue, this is something you should discuss with your surgeon. He can't guarantee that your legs will be the same length after surgery (see the link below for more on the subject).

If you and your surgeon decide that having a total hip replacement is the way to go, do at least ask about ceramic/ceramic bearings as they generate far less debris than the standard metal/poly bearing. This factor becomes even more important in a very young (and presumably active) patient because one of the common causes of the need for revision surgery is aseptic osteolysis, a condition caused by the debris generated by the bearing material; therefore if the bearing material generates less debris, the fake joint may last longer. Two links that give more details on this condition are:

Given your age you should qualify for the more bone conserving procedure called Hip Resurfacing. I'm not sure if they can still do that on you because you've already had one Hip Replacement in the past. I know that in Hip Resurfacing the risk for leg alteration is pretty much non-existent. Here are some resources on Hip Resurfacing:
