Hip replacement surgery? |
I need to know the name of the newest hip replacement surgery where they slip the new hip between the muscles instead of cutting them. My mother is seeking second opinions.thx You're probably referring to a minimally invasive type of incision and approach to the hip joint. The size of the incision can vary and the meaning of the term "minimally invasive" or "mini-incision" can have different meanings depending on who you're talking to. Some consider 3-4" incisions to be minimal. There's at least one method that uses two very small incisions instead of one larger one. A Dr. Berger from Rush in Chicago pioneered that one and bragged that his patients were walking out of the hospital on a cane. However, there's more to it than the length of incision. Some consider incision length to be more of a cosmetic concern and claim no special advantage to a shorter incision. I've had both my hips replaced with 11" incisions! The scars have pretty much faded because I kept them out of the sun for the first year. Here's more background info (from a website developed by an ortho surgeon in [slightly fractured] English translation as a service to patients): I had a hip replacement two years ago. I went to a sports specialist. He had me have a MRI (after suffering and going to other doctors for 2 years). Discussed the problem with me, showed me the x-rays. Had the surgery a week later. No problems. I'd recommend a sports surgeon. Knowledgeable in all fields. Good luck and God bless. |
