Do i need a hip replacement?

I'm only 17 and for about a year i have felt a significant twinge in my right hip, i can usually feel more after i have slept on my side and when I鈥檝e been walking a lot it doesn鈥檛 seem like it will ever go away. I wouldn鈥檛 say that it is painful, more discomfort, I鈥檓 worried it is leading me to having a hip replacement soon, in the near future, or it鈥檚 the signs that I will need one when I鈥檓 a lot older.
This may be possible as my Mum is 52 and she had hip resurfacing a year ago, which is still quite young to have one. Does anyone have any ideas?

This may be a possibility, the first thing is to go to your local doctor and have an xray of both hips, then they can compare bith of the hip joints to each other and see if there is any discrepancy there. Also, perhaps a lower spine xray, as the pain you may be getting could be related to lower back problems, referral of pain to the hip area can occur.
They will then, if need be, refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon for a consultation.
Meanwhile, try to relax as much as possible, and if you have alot of pain, take regular paracetamol/ tylenol of you are not allergic to this that is. Regular low dose pain killers are the most effective analgesia for bone pain.

No problems, make sure you get it checked for your own peace of mind, and of course, so you don't wake up in such terrible pain. Report It

Try sleeping on a much softer mattress. NO FOOLING. If this does not improve the condition then ask the doctor to XRAY your hips.

Hard to diagnose on a computer ;)

There are some very rare things.....bone disorders, etc. that would place you in that category....BUT.....BUT....."common things present commonly"

One common cause of hip pain is overworking the tensor fasciae latae muscle and the iliotibial band.

It is worth a visit to the doctor to be evaluated. Try and get an appointment with a Sports Medicine specialist.

Hey! First thing you need to do is get to a ortho dr and let him do x-rays or an MRI and these will tell the whole story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT MUCH you can do until that is done..............and the longer you wait the worse it will get!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T BE SCARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll be up and running in a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK

You need to have an orthopedic evaluation. I just had a hip replacement and I surely hope you never have to have one. I've never had such pain and misery!

Whoa. You're getting way ahead of yourself. And, you're self-diagnosing and scaring yourself to death.
First thing to do is consult with a doctor about your pains and discomfort. Then come back here and tell us what your doctor told you. Maybe then we can offer more detailed advice.

Second, hip replacements are very rare in people as young as you are. So stop worrying and take some action.
