Anyone with hip replacement surgery? Your experience?

I have osteoarthritis in one hip - difficult to walk, and painful. I have tried alternate medicine - but even these practicioners say that replacement is the only answer. Now, only painkillers keep me going. Problem is money - I understand that overseas hospitals do good work, much cheaper than the U.S. Any ideas out there?

There's a medical tourism tout who finds all these joint replacement Qs and posts an ad about going to India to have the surgery. I'm surprised s/he hasn't shown up here yet!
Anyhow, I guess it's one solution although flying thousands of miles to a 3rd world country (or is it 2nd world?) to have surgery doesn't appeal to me, there are people who do it because they can't afford US costs. I am no advocating this method but merely making it known that it is a possibility.
I take it that you have no medical insurance and are under 65 (if you were 65+, you'd be on medicare which does cover the procedure).
I've had both of my hips replaced in separate surgeries. I will go out on a limb and say that hip replacement is a very successful surgery in how it relieves pain and restores function.
Good luck to you in your search for a solution.
