Hip Injury - anything to do to help?

I play Roller Derby. At practice on Tuesday night, I had a fall where I was skating sideways, my skates slipped when I got hit and my feet went out from under me and my torso went the other direction, and I fell onto my left hip.

It hurt as falls do, but I got up and continued skating and the pain seemed to go away. When I got home I noticed a dark blue bruise already showing, but small, and a small light scrape. No big deal.

The next morning, it was swollen (about the size of my hand) though no color changes. It is now Friday and it is still puffy, the mobility is a bit reduced, all my weight on the left leg and walking is uncomfortable and there is a dull ache all the time.

True pain occurs if I go up stairs with my weight lifted with my left leg, laying on it, or touching it. The rest of the time it just aches and I am limping about 40% of the time, especially after a long time up and moving.

Anyone have any suggestions?

See a doctor to make sure everything is okay, it sounds like you're in a lot of pain and if you can't put weight on it after 3 days there may be something wrong.

Considering it's Friday and you probably won't be able to get in til Monday at the earliest, apply ice to the painful spot for 15-20 minutes at a time, rest it as much as possible, and try to elevate your hip above your heart level with pillows while lying down.

PS: sitting in front of a computer is probably bad for it. I'd take it really easy this weekend and lay down. This would be a great time to be a couch potato.
