What can cause a sudden throbbing hip pain?

I have not had any recent injuries to my hip. I have recently started a new job that requires hours of driving. Could this be the problem?

Most definitely, a long period of sitting will do the trick. I have the same problem with pain because I sit alot and study and I am less active now.

maybe. u might want to talk to your doctor about this though. i heard that if u have a problem with your apendix u feel bad pain. i'm just a 17 year old and trying my best here. sometimes i feel pain in my sides but im a girl and my reasons could be different. also stress causes pain too.

I am sure sitting for long periods isn't helping.
You could have bursitis in the hip. It sounds funny, but it does hurt. Does it really hurt at night too?
I'd check with your MD - if the pain doesn't subside with some motrin and taking a few breaks during the drive.
