Is this pain from the hip?

My hip and pelvis was crushed by an 18 wheeler about 18 months ago, and about 30 surgeries later, after reassembling my pelvis and treating quite a few other injuries, i have severe damage to my sciatic nerve and because of my hip being crushed i need a full hip replacement asap, which i'm in the process of working towards. I can sort of tell which is the sciatic nerve pain and the hip pain- my question is, i have this really bad pain down the front of my thigh to my knee, almost like a muscular pain, i was just wondering if this pain is likely going ease after hip replacement surgery? I know the pain i have down he back of my thigh is because of damage to the sciatic nerve, does this go for the font of the thigh too? Serious answers please??

First let me say how sorry I am that this has happened to you...what an ordeal you've been through. I don't know for sure, of course, but this is a serious answer. It may be possible that because of the pain in your hip and the back of your leg that you're compensating for that by walking "different" which could be putting stress on the front of your thigh. If the back and side of your leg is weak, then the front has to step up and bear the brunt of your weight. Do you use a cane or crutches? If not, maybe you could try one and see if that will ease some of the stress on your damaged leg. I think physical therapy right now is probably out of the question and you're probably on or have access to some strong pain meds. Maybe a heating pad, warm compress, and some gentle massage on the front of your thigh will help too.
Good luck to you, I hope this surgery helps ease your pain.

C.
