Surgery soon, surgeon will break hip bone put in foot,I have concerns? |
My daughter had surgery on her foot after car wreck.Foot was crushed and middle toe came off.She also had other serious injuries. The surgeon put huge screws and pins in at that time. Her surgery di not work and her foot bone is starting to die.The surgeon is going to do the surgery again and put new screws and pins back in.He is also going to break her Hip bone and put that in her foot.My question is...Has anyone ever known someone that had this done?Does it work? What are the chances of the foot being fused or taken off? Will her hip start causing her chronic pain? How long does it take to recover from breaking the hip bone and putting it in the foot?Is the Hip bone going to possible cause her to be cripple in the future,They are taking it from the left side her right side is the bad side and allready is crippled some what. working in an OR, i have seen surgeries like this done. the success rate is pretty good. a reconstructive surgery like this is never taken lightly. if your doctors have decided this, its the best thing they think they can do. there are somethings that should been explained better, like, they don't really break the hip , they take parts of the ilium, which is that big bone you can feel on the side that makes up your hip, things like that. the way you have it, it sound a lot worse then it is. it's not like this is not done all the time, and believe me your doctor has asked all his colleagues what they think before he/she came to this conclusion. What the surgeon is doing is grafting bone to bone to add more strength to the foot bone. They don't really break the hip bone, they pull bone fragments out of the large part of the pelvic bone. It's done all the time and will not hurt the hip joint at all (because it is not taken from the joint, but from the iliac crest) Ask the surgeon to suggest some other surgeons with whom you can discuss the case. This is big enough to warrant a second opinion. |
