Broken hip?

I'm 15 years old, played soccer since I was very young
During an indoor soccer game I broke my right hip, my muscle pulled a piece of bone off of my hip. I was able to walk but was in extreme pain a week after the injury I can walk normally except my leg still feels weak and I have a reluctance to lift it. For example if trying to step over a school bag i have to go over left foot first and then follow with my right. I was wondering if anyone else has had an injury similar to this and if I'll need to physical therapy to get back to soccer or if I should be able to go back after 4 weeks (4 weeks is the only detail the doc gave). I was also wondering if anybody knew the specific name for this type of break.

These types of fractures are called avulsion fractures. They can occur in several places in the body including the shoulder, the ankle, the elbow, etc. Avulsion fractures of the hip usually occur at the anterior inferior iliac spine, the anterior superior iliac spine, the ischial tuberosity (this are boney prominances on your pelvis), the greater trochanter or the adducter tubercle (these are body prominances on your femur). Depending on which is the site of fracture it may be classified as a "hip pointer injury" or a "sprinters fracture", etc...but in general it can be called an avulsion fracture of the ______________ (insert name of fractured boney prominance).

You might need some physical therapy, depending on your recovery of muscle function. You'll probably feel alot better in 4 weeks, but may not be ready for soccer.

That would be a sprinters fracture...good luck! Report It
