Have you (or someone you know) ever had a dislocated hip?

My husband thought he had a pulled groin muscle for the last 8 days. Motrin and icing wasnt helping, and he was in excrutiating pain. So he went to the doc. It turns out he dislocated his hip!!

He doesnt know how he did it. He is really active and athletic, so we assume it happened during his martial arts class, or during his squadron's flag foot ball game.

My questions are:
1) Shouldnt he have noticed SOMETHING when it happened?!?! It seems to me that he should have noticed something like that.

2) Is it unusual that he was still able to walk with that injury?

Yes, that is exactly what happened to me, i dislocated it in gym class, and i was in a little pain but i was totally able to walk, but a couple of days later i started not being able to walk. i went to the doctor and they put me on crutches for 2 months. but i dont think thats what happens with all cases. he'll be fine, just do everything the doctor says to do. best of luck!! tell him to feel better soon!!

My guess says he probably did notice something at the time, but, he ignored it in hopes that it would go away.

As far as walking, it all depends on where the dislocated part of the hip ended up.

I had a dislocated hip as a kid. I was 11 or 12, I am 48 now. I was able to walk on it but my foot was turned out sideways when I ran. That's when the teachers pulled me aside and had my parents take me for x-rays. It did not hurt that I remember. I was in traction for a month and had two surgeries. But that was 36 years ago technology. It has to be better now. I think the technical term was slipped epiphisus.

Anyhow I have a good joint now and only have pain from time to time. My Dr thinks the pain is from a Vitamin D deficiency. Since I have been taking the Vit D supplement she prescribed, the pain has gone away. It hurt today some but I was on a roof cutting down a tree so my legs where always at an angle.
