What should I do about my hip flexor?

I was longboarding recently and ran over some sand, taking quite a fall. I fell on my side and I believe I hurt my hip flexor; the tensor fasciae latae muscle (I think) to be more specific. It hurts terribly to put pressure on my right leg and do any activities that may require its use, without crutches. Does anybody have any suggestions? Is this a serious injury? How long should it take to heal? Should I see a doctor? If I did see a doctor, would any painkillers be perscribed?

The most accurate and most specific answer will be chosen as best.

I am assuming this is a self-diagnosis since you are asking if you should see a doctor. I definitely think you should see a doctor because you don't even know what you injured. It might be something totally different. No one can give you an answer as to how long it will take to heal or what kind of medications you would have to take without knowing a true diagnosis.
