Bio question... easy 10 points?

Your best friend moves away and gives you her purebred Labrador, a female named Nora. Supposed you decide to breed Nora and sell puppies to help pay for your class project. Then you discover that 2 of her brothers and sisters (Nora) show hip dysplasia, a heritable disorder arising from number of gene interactions. If Nora mates with a male Labrador known to be free of that harmful alleles, can you guarantee to a buyer that the puppies will not develop the disorder? Explain your answer.
----Hip dysplasia is a hereditary disease that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints. It is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. It can be found in many animals and occasionally in humans, but is most commonly associated with dogs, and is not uncommon in many dog breeds, particularly the larger breeds.

Well, I am sorry but I did not research my answer, but just think about it.
If one parent has something genetic that can be passed on to their children or puppies etc., just because the other parent does not have that gene does not automatically knock out the chance for the offspring to get the gene.
So in all honesty, you cannot guarantee they won't get it.

Canine Hip Dysplasia occurs when one or more incomplete recessive genes or two defined recessive genes for the condition occur in the embryo(s).
That , of course, was complicated in the 70's when it was proven that perinatal nutritional factors can cause the disorder.

Bottom Lilne: Only God has all the answers

well you have to do punnet squares or some form of chart to show the passing down of the traits. Since the genes came from her parents but she does not express them you should be able to tell the buyer that the disease will not show up but you cant guaruntee it. It could be a recessive gene and could still be passed to the offspring
