Body Image..? |
Alright, so lately i have been carefully watching what i eat and ive been drink only water.I've lost about 9 or 10 pounds. Im 5'1" and i weight 110 now. Everybody is telling me that i need to stop losing weight that im skinny enough. Now, idk, is it possible that i have a distorted body image because i just dont see myself as being skinny. I have a 24 3/4 inch waist and 35 inch hips.Im really worried that i may be borderline of an eatting disorder again. I used to be bulimic a long time ago. Today, i couldnt even finish eatting a small yogurt cup because i felt that 110 calories was too much for a portion that small. HELP! i know. you have the experience! you had an eating disorder!.. look for professional help.. First of all, congratulations on taking a step in the right direction by recognizing you may be suffering from body dysmorphia. If you have struggled with eating disorders in the past and feel that this might be afflicting you again, GET HELP!! You can only go downhill from here unless you seek help. Good luck! dont try to lose weight in an unhealthy way.. i understand where you come from. people are always shocked at what jean size i wear, they tell me that im so skinny but i really dont think i am. but what you have to consider is that they see you in reality, sometimes we do see ourselves a different way, and lots of times, the wrong way in things like this. You sound like you have a good body, and in order to keep it that way, we have to take care of it properly. its a struggle sometimes, i know... First let me start off by saying that I am a recovered anorexic (10 years), so I totally hear you on the body image stuff. I've noticed that my own body image symptoms wax and wane with stress and various things going on in my life - so it could be that you've just got some stuff going on that is making you think more about your weight. Also, as you may already know, sometimes body image stuff and eating disorders can involve a chemical imbalance (which can also be affected by stress or your own unique chemistry)! Soooo....yes, it does sound like you are at a great weight, or maybe even underweight a bit. Are you seeing a counselor? Are you doing journaling? Both of these things helped me, along with a book by Thomas Cash called "The Body Image Workbook." It's such a great book, it has short writing exercises and relaxation techniques to do when you're feeling down about your body. Listen to the people close to you who love you. It sounds like you're at a very good weight yet losing more might set you on a bad path...again. Are you seeing a counselor? Is there a counselor at school you could talk to? how about your Mom? If you know you've had problems in the past, then you know what NOT to do. if you have less than 800 calories per day. thats considered anorexic. Speak to someone about this, see your doctor because you don't want this to get worse. You are thin already, and if you have issues with eating a yogurt because you are scared of the calories then you really need to get help as soon as possible. Just because your bulmia symtoms went away, doesn't mean that you got rid of the mental illness. There's a lot more that I could say, but it's all on my website: www.fedupwithed.com. I hope you can find some help in what I have to say! I think you should go get help. Normally, I would say it is great that you are watching what you eat and are trying to have a healthy diet, but that said it seems like you may have lost a little bit of control of the food controlling you. Especially, since you have had previous problems with an eating disorder...its probably important to keep a tab on how your feeling in terms of your relationship to food and your body. Bottom line you shouldn't have to feel guilty about eating small cup of yogurt.... |
