Hidradenitis Suppurativa!!!?

So I've heard there is no cure ,but does anyone know of any home remedies or anything that helps it?

Different treatments affect sufferers differently.

See http://www.hs-foundation.org/index.html for info on the disease

I've had HS for about 16+ years. I've been in and out of the hospital, had numerous surgeries and tried almost everything under the sun. For years, the only thing that even tamed it was tretracycline. I would take it about 3-4 times a day. I started seeing a new dermatologist and he put me on Keflex 500mg 3x/day. What a difference!! I had to stop taking it for about a week to take another antibiotic and I had a really bad flare-up. As soon as I went back on the Keflex, it started settling down right away. Over the years and many doctors later, I have learned some key things:

1. Use Dial or SafeGuard Antibacterial soap (no lotion added or liquid soaps, because they have oils in them that will cause flar-ups)
2. Soak, Soak, Soak. Soak or compress with hot water at least 2x.day. Then COMPLETELY dry the area.
3. NEVER reuse or use someone elses' towels or wash rags.
4. DO NOT put powder, lotion, or even something like Neosporin of any kind on or near the area. It can block the cysts and cause them to go deeper or flare-up.
5. If you have them under your arms, like I do, go easy on the deoderant.
6. Keep the areas clean and dry. Dryness is a key to keeping the damn things calm.
7. If you do have one that starts to drain, the pads I seem to have the best luck with are the CURAD Non-stick with adheasive on the ends. It doesn't stick to the wound and it really soaks up the drainage.

I'm sorry that you or someone you know has this. It can be extremely painful and embarrassing, believe me I know.

I hope this has helped you and I'm sorry that this answer was so long, it's just that I've had to learn the hard way what works and what doesn't and I don't want anyone else to go through that.

If you need anything, please email me.

Thanks.

Yes, there is no cure or universal treatment for HS. HS suffers find ways from bathing in sea salts to changing their diets to help control there HS.

I suggest you find a good support group and a doctor that has treated HS. Most doctors start off with anti's but taken for long periods of time, your body will become immune to them. So its best to find a doctor that knows what they are doing.

To find home treatments, I suggest to find a support group to start. You will find many others on ways they treat there own HS. Also remember what works for one, might not work for you. It a trial and error to find ways to help you.

Also, please be careful of secondary infections. If you have areas that are red, swollen and growing bigger or you have having bad pain from the lesion, please seek medical attention. You could have Cellulitis. Its very dangerous if not treated.

I wish you the best!

Karen G.

I have it and have for many years there is no cure it doesn't matter what other people tell you I know. I have had 4 surgery's and had them biopsied it came back as hidradenitis. There are only a few options one you can get it any where you grow hair most commonly on groin armpits and near breasts the plastic surgeon who did my last surgeon is the only doc who seemed very firmilar with it said you can try laser hair removal or botox and yes botox has been approved for treatment in hidradeniis so some insurance company's will pay a portion. The laser hair removal kills the hair follicles which in turn make you sweat less people with this tend to sweat alot in the area they have it.
