Is herpes zoster the same as general herpes? is it sexually transmissive? is it a lifelong disease?

my mom had herpes zoster before, i just wanted to know more about this disease.

Herpes simplex is what causes most cold sores. They can also be caused by sunburn which is why you need to use a good sunscreen on the lips too.

Herpes zoster is another form of herpes and yes you can spread this by skin to skin contact. Shingles is from this and they are very painful and very conagious if you touch them. They usually are on the back and follow a nerve pathway along around to the front. It is possible to make them less severe and spread to much ( on the person who has them) with the use of an antiviral medication called Famvir. This is also used to treat genital herpes.

Once a person has genital herpes you MUST practice safe sex because even without signs of an outbreak they can be spread. There are medications to help prevent outbreaks but you can't cure it.

Every one is at risk for a herpes problem if you have had chicken pox because this is also a form of herpes.

I think herpes zoster is cold sores, and genital herpes is a different virus.

Herpes zoster causes shingles. It is not an STD. I don't know what "general herpes" is, since there are many different kinds.

Go search on Yahoo for it. There's a lot of information.

NO this is the virus of chicken pox and shingles.

zoster (also called shingles) is an infection of a sensory nerve by the varicella-zoster virus ( Herpesvirus varicellae).
It occurs in adults who had chicken pox in childhood and are partially immune to the virus. after recovery from chicken pox, the virus persists in the nerve tissue. for most of us, this present no problem, but in very small percentage of adults the latent virus is activated and causes an infection of a sensory nerve.

With the exception of varicella-zoster herpesvirus, most herpesviruses appear to be acquired by close personal contact. Herpes simplex type1 , common manifestation is the common fever blister. The area most often infected is the mucous membrane of the mouth, can also infect mucous membrane of the genitalia, the eye, skin and central nervous system. for people who recovered from primary infection, the virus remains in a latent state for life.
