Is there any differences between herpes and herpes zoster?

"Herpes" usually refers to the herpes simplex viruses, which cause oral and genital herpes.

Herpes zoster is when varicella-zoster virus (which causes chicken pox) is re-activated and causes shingles.

different forms of the same virus. herpes is generally a STD whereas herpes zoster can be contracted through casual contact with sores - it is chicken pox and also when it comes back it is shingles. does this help?
