I'm Herpes Simplex Negative, but I get canker sores all the time, how I get them to stop? |
I used be affraid I had herpes, but I get checked regularly, and it turns out, I'm herpes simplex negative, which is great considering a lot of people have that one type. I've never gotten a cold sore (a sore outside of the mouth) Have you talked to your dentist? Has he noticed that your mouth is unusually dry? It could be something like dryness that causes the tissues to crack more easily. I take some medications that cause my mouth to be dry and my dentist suggests that I chew sugarless gum often to make my own saliva come out. Sometimes it may indicate an auto-immune condition. Maybe you have a nutritional deficiency. See a nutritionist. No one knows for sure why canker sores develop. The medical term for such sores is "apthous ulcers". One theory is they develop b/c of upper gastro-intestinal reflux disorders. But there are very few studies on this. You may want to try a trial of over the counter prilosec for a month or two to see if this does not improve your symptoms. Otherwise there are effective topical treatments available that can be prescribed by a doctor, or dentist. The one I like best is Kenalog paste. This is a steroid paste applied topically that will resolve the ulcer quickly usually within 48 hours. No one knows why or what causes canker sores, better known as apthous ulcers. Some people have severe outbreaks of apthous ulcers where they get them all over the inside of the mouth on squishy gum tissue (cheek, inside of lips, soft palate) never on gum tissue that is tight against bone, like hard palate and gum tissue next to teeth. This is caused by herpes. Lysine may help. I notice mine occur when my hormones change. from chewing so carefully and from bitting the inside of your cheek while u chew now and then causing canker sores. by the way herpes and canker sores are not related and one doesn't cause the other. try not to bite the inside of your cheek when u chew that should cut down the canker sores and use vitamine c (the chewable kind) put it on the canker sore and have some vitamine c in your diet. Try cutting back on salty foods and brush your entire mouth when you brush your teeth, make sure to get your tongue AND your gums. |
