Is there life after herpes simplex 2 diagnosis?

I am devastated. I just got back from the doctors and was informed that I have tested positive for herpes simplex 2. Not to blame, not to dwell on the facts...its done...I have it... Now what?? I am a single lady in her 50s, very clean, very careful but it was hard enough to find someone before...is my life as I know it over? I don't even know where to begin... Hi my name is....., I am caring, friendly, passionate and a good person and I have herpes how do you like me so far...just doesn't seem to work. I feel like I will sit in my little cave (my house) and just be alone for the rest of my life. Even flirting won't feel right anymore. How do I tell my friends (that may need to know) ? Help help help I feel soooooooo lost, scared ...and alone...........

Hey 1692...unless you ask everyone you are with if they have ever had a coldsore you ALREADY have been with someone with herpes. Coldsores are herpies simplex 1 and can give genital herpes as well...and to top it off...85-90% of the population have been introduced to HS1. grow up...I didn't 'go near' someone with herpes on purpose....dumbass

No life is not over but your sex life just got a lot harder. people will not want to have sex with you when they find out that you have this nor will some of your friend stay your friends. I would not tell people that don't need to know and look into something else for a sexual relief (Not to be rude) like toys. Being in your 50's you understand how things are and how things will need to change. I am sorry that this had to happen to you or anyone because most times it's not their fault. Learn all you can and just make sure you use good judgment in any sexual activity.

I wouldn't tell very many friends, as I can't imagine that mere friends have a "need to know." Just take if very slow when you date, don't mention it early (and don't let things head to the bedroom early, either) and give the guy a chance to know you, and fall for you. Then tell him. He'll be responding to someone he knows and likes a lot, rather than to some woman he's gone out with 2 or 3 times who tells him that.

Life isn't over are you still breathing are you still living??? Everything happens for a reason and what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. My advice to you is don't go around spreading your business because many people will judge you and not get to know the real you. If and when you start dating someone serious, your going to have to tell them eventually I would wait though and if they leave F*&K them obviously all they care about is sex anyway and you don't need that. I don't see why this diagnosis should cause you to sit in your cave - Of course it's going to have to come up sooner or later if you are building a relationship but why would you jump in and tell them straight away

Should things progress with someone why wouldn't you just practice safe sex and use a condom - Most mature adults accept that the risks of casual sex are high and use them anyway

You have a responsibility to not spread the virus ... nobody says that means you have to expose yourself to small minded idiots who like to pass judgement. I'd only be sleeping with, or telling people who were mature enough to make an informed decision (with or without a virus)

I was on the other side - I dated a herpes positive lady for a couple of years. I accepted it wasn't her fault she had the virus and she was careful to ensure cross transmission didn't occur (and it didn't).

HEY 1692, YOU PROBABLY HAVE ALOT OF FRIENDS WITH HERPES AND YOU DONT EVEN KNOW IT. SO SHUT YOUR STINK HOLE AND GROW UP YOU SLIMY PIECE OF GARBAGE. And to you miss lady. your life is not over. things happen in life. There are ppl out there who have the same issue and you dont even know it. It will be hard to find someone but you will. Once you have found someone and you are ready to tell them go for it. there are ways to prevent spreading herpes. Just explain to them you need to always wear a condom and leave oral sex alone. You aren't alone. By your age 1 in 3 women actually has hsv-2. Most of them are just lucky enough not to know it and to go on oblivious.

There are plenty of men who will accept you. I have told a few men and haven't found it really deters them. The men who want sex mostly still want to get in your knickers and the ones who are interested in you personally are still actually interested in you personally.

My boyfriend is 50. I was worried about having herpes but he tells me I am hardly the first woman he has met who has had it, and that plenty of people have plenty of things, genital warts and so on. People are flawed, and we tend to accumulate flaws as we get older - that is why people wih a bit more maturity are often more accepting than the young.

Give someone time to get to know you. There is nothing wrong with waiting a few dates to tell someone. It doesn't make you less attractive. Know the information about the virus, explain it is just a cold sore down below, explain how common it is. Ignorance is what generally leads to fear. Flirting doesn't somehow make you a phoney because you have found out you have herpes. Herpes is just a virus, and a minor inconvenience not a life threatening illness. You are no less attractive nor worth any less than you were before you knew. You just need to have confidence in that, and it can be very hard at first.

I just tell myself 80% of people have at least one type of herpes, and apart from the stigma, herpes on the mouth is no different from herpes on the genitals. 95% of people over 50 have hsv-1 as well. My boyfriend is one of them, that is how I came to have it on my genitals.

Herpes is one of those things lots of people have but not many people talk about. It doesn't mean ti is rare and you are certainly not alone.
