Is it possible to spread herpes simplex from your lip to your genital area?

When I was 16 years of age I wasnt sexually active and I got a "fever blister" on my upper lip. I later learned that it was actually herpes simplex. When I was about 19 I noticed it in my genital area. I still wasnt sexually active then either. is it possible then to have genital herpes without having sex or is it possible to spread the simplex from one body part to the genital area

Yes it is possible to spread it from your lip to your genital area.

yes

Apparently yes it is..........

yes

Yes, very possible.

ewww....thatz nasty

yes it is possible that you have spread it farther on you ! keep hands clean always ! use a q-tip to put medicin on a fever blister. Go to the doctor and have yourself checked out

yes, you can transfer herpes from your lips to you genital area. You need to have this checked out. You will need treatment for genital herpes and need to take all sorts of precautions once you become sexually active.

ooo tough one i dont know go see your doctor that is serious

YES! TODAY DOCTORS WILL SAY THERE IS NOT A HERPES 1 AND 2 BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE TOO MUCH INTO ORAL SEX! They can't distinguish where it originated from.. Herpes is herpes and can be transferred from one body part to another.

Yes you can have the herp without having sex. And yes you can transfer the herp from point A to point B, from point B to section C so on so forth. Id recomend you get some meds. Those things can help out the herp problem alot.

i had cold sores from the age of 10. and no it is impossible to contact genital cold sores...herpes... without having contact. same as on the mouth one is A and the other B look it up. i kiss my grand kids, but not when i have the virus, but this is also because it can affect the eyes. and they can contract the virus to their eyes. and like my 3 year old step son, he had to wear dark glasses when out doors, till he got older, he is 38 now. but ok, never kiss a baby with a cold sore on my mouth...... so when has cold sores been on the mouth been classed as STD, i KNOW IT IS THE HERPES VIRUS but so is measles, i do not have genital herpes. and my husband has kissed me when i have had cold sores, and gone down on me, so explain that?. really i don't even think doctors can explain, i have never passed the virus to any of my kids or grand kids, i think these are two separate viruses..

yes i think this just happened to me a little over 2 weeks ago. my bf went down on me when I had a cold sore on my mouth and Im pretty sure I have genital herpes now. But since you haven't had sex then I dont know if it is herpes.. it could be something else. You can ask a doctor if it comes back again. Good Luck!

It is possible if you touch active cold sore with finger and touch your genitals.

Possible though relatively rare. You can 'auto innoculate' during an outbreak, this is most common during a primary outbreak. I think it can also happen when your immune sytem is low. Technically your body should produce antibodies against the virus when you have had it a while, which prevent you transfering it to a different location, but if your immune system is low or your body is forced to fight a lot of the virus (for example from open sores) the virus can overpower your immune defences and cause an outbreak in a different area. It is just very unlucky.
