Differentiating between cold sores (Herpes Simplex) and Canker Sores? |
I read that herpes simplex inside the mouth (hard/soft palate, inner cheek, tongue..) can be misdiagnosed as a canker sore. What are the ways to tell the difference? I suffer with cold sores that occur outside the mouth on the oro-facial skin area, and I'm worried I'll pass it on to my boyfriend. I don't share cups with him, utensils, I make sure my hands are clean, and I don't kiss him until at least a week after I'm sure it's gone. To sum it up, I'm VERY careful :). I have heard him complain of canker sores in the past, and I know that they're not uncommon in people without any kind of virus. Now that I've read that misdiagnosis happens, and I've seen the pictures (they don't really help, they're only pictures, afterall), I'm a bit paranoid. hey really contact these! canker sores are on the inside of your mouth i BELIEVE and are cause from sugar? Canker sores are typically on the inside of the cheek or lip. HSV sores (cold sores) are typically preceded by tingling and occur on the outside of the lip or at the vermillion border (where lip meets skin). you are right. i check the same info at STDromance.com canker sores usually happen on the inside of the mouth when u bite your cheek or lips a lot they usually heal and go away. cold sores are considered to be the herpes virus which usually happens on the outside of the mouth and around the lips. they will appear once in a while but its a virus that will be in your body the rest of your life. people can pass cold sores on even when they don't have them. i suppose if they are so similar one could be miss diagnossed if they didn't have a test done for them. |
