or is that only type 2? Ive read that simplex A is on the lips but Im not sure about whether or not type A occurs inside the mouth

No, herpes doesn't usually occur inside the mouth. The sores inside your mouth are probably canker sores which are not caused by herpes.

Herpes Simplex 1 occurs around the mouth. (cold sores)
Herpes Simplex 2 occurs around the genitals.
Herpes Simplex 1 can also occur around the genitals.
