Herpes simplex type 1?

what does it mean when ur
IgG antibody-negative
IgM antibody-positive

for hepes simplex type 1??

It means your not gettin any anymore.

That you're almost certainly HSV-1 antibody negative and the IgM results are a false positive. IgM results are usually considered useless.

I suppose i should have made myself clearer so the person that thumbed my answer down would have reconsidered. IgM is NOT type specific and can even cross react to other viruses in the family herpesviridae (of which virtually every person on earth will have at least one of them). The asker CLEARLY stated his question was in regard to type 1. The IgG results were NEGATIVE so therefor assumming this wasnt a false neg, the IgM was a false positive. It is possible that the poster was recently infected and the IgG antibodies arent detectable yet. But in all reality, who cares? The vast majority of human beings would aquire HSV1 before adulthood and therefor test positive in the first place. Even so, the IgM tests arent all that useful in the first place even IF it signified a previous infection with either type 1 or 2. Lets not make herpes into something bigger than it really is.

IGG- means you are NOT immune to it

IGM- positive
means that you have had an outbreak in the past or are having one now.
