I am looking for a lubricant or foam that offers some degree of protection against Herpes Simplex Virus? |
My girlfriend has Genital Herpes HSV-I, but rarely has outbreaks. We are going to use Valacyclovir as a prophylaxis and of course a condom; however, I would like to have an antiviral gel or foam to cover the areas not covered by the condom. You guys have any recommendations? I was surprised myself to learn that she has genital herpes simplex I- typically it is an Orofacial infection. Gel provides protection from HIV and herpes http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/632175... As a healthcare provider I am glad you are concerned about protection. However there is no antiviral gel or foam products that I am aware of. And I believe that this measure is not medically recommended as being needed. The measures you are taking are adequate. Are you sure she does not have HSV-II ? HSV-I is the virus associated with oral 'cold sore' variety of herpes. Of course, it is possible to get this in the genital area. but genital herpes is usually HSV-II . If your girlfriend has HSV-1 then she is less likely to have an outbreak, if she has another outbreak at all. However there is no lubricant that will protect you from getting herpes. There is a vaccine in the making for women to put in there vagina to keep them from getting herpes, and to keep the male from catching it, if his mate has it. But there is no more information available about this vaccine until 2008-2009. The only protect is to not have sex if she is having an outbreak. your screwed dude Just use protection to be on the safe side find another girlfriend without herpes |
