How contagious is Herpes Simplex 1?

My cousin just found out that she has herpes 1. How contagious is it? What are some ways that i could catch the virus? Can I catch it from sleeping in the same bed with her?

Direct contact, or indirect contact. If she has a cold sore on her lip, don't share a glass with her, share utensils, share chapstick, etc. If she has genital herpes, the only way to catch it is sexual contact. In your case, sharing a bed is perfectly safe.
