(I am just recovering from a nasty one that has lasted a week ). The worst case I had was when I was about 12; it covered one side of my face. I got over it and never scarred and have never had as severe a case since. I get cold sores all the time and have never had any issues with it traveling to my eyes or penis. I don't wash my hands any more that normal, just use common sense. I also have been married for 25 years and have not spread it to my wife; I just don't kiss her when I have an open sore or when I feel one coming on (burning/itching). I've tried some of the medications but none have impressed me.
