Can you give herpes simplex one through birth if you had a c-section?

I know that you can pass this virus to your baby through giving birth out of the vagina, but what about a c-section? My fiance has it and he has had it since he was four years old.

No she will not pass it to the baby . The baby will be just fine...CONGRADULATIONS....... . Best Wishes

Not through c-section. That is why doctors opt c-section if there are any present outbreaks.

No chance.

HSV-1 is oral herpes, which would break out on your mouth area. You couldn't have HSV-1 on your vagina unless he transmitted it to you through oral sex while he was having an outbreak.

And a baby can not get any type of herpes through a c-section because that is the back-up delivery method for a woman who has genital herpes. She can deliver vaginally if she doesn't have an outbreak at the time, or they do a c-section if she is having an outbreak.

Um, no, a C-section will not pass herpes.

Just to give everyone some more information about genital herpes.

The classification of HSV-1 as an "oral" form of herpes is outdated. The occurence of HSV-1 GENITAL infections is increasing globally with marked variation between countries.*

In Norway, a recent study found that 90% of GENITAL herpes infection was from HSV-1 !!! *

In Nova Scotia (an eastern Canadian province) 58.1% of 1790 HSV isolates from genital cultures in women were HSV-1; in men, 36.7% of 468 isolates were HSV-1.*
