Do heroin addicts have feelings and can they quit? |
i was wondering, when a person is hooked on heroin is it possible for that person to love anyone else? do they care about their family? wife kids? or does the drug leave them emotionless?i'm very confussed and heartbroken, i don't know what to think. and if the person has been doing heroin for about 10 yrs what are the chances that they quit? Yes, they have feelings and there is always hope. However, an addiction tends to take priority over other things. An addict will neglect their family and responsibilities for their drug of choice. Then they will feel guilty for doing so and many times, the way they deal with this guilt is by escaping back into the substance. It's a very vicious cycle. I'm sorry you are going through this. Have you considered the support groups that are out there for family and friends of alcoholics and addicts? Hang in there. they are hiding their feelings in the drug. they need considerable rehab and therapy. Yes you can quit. Only if you want to. Yes you are void of any emotions on the drug. It will kill you Very slim my friend did heroin. She tried to quit, but she started all over again. Also, she is very sweet and loving. She loves her boyfriend and dog and is giving to a fault. It isn't that she is bad, she is just hooked on it and it has her by the ***. She probably will not stop and have a life long battle with heroin. it's difficult for any addict to see past their addiction - it becomes the sole focus of their life and truth be known it's sad. everything is possible. there is a treatment for heroin called methadone. apparently it is really hard to quit, probably the hardest thing you can do in your life. but people taking heroin are human and they can love. most of all they need help and support because they are trapped. well i think that the people that have been doing heroin for a long time do have a slim chance of trying to kick the habit ! just like regular smoking a cigarette both are addicting! so i would say it's very hard to quit! I am a heroin addict, i have feelings, i love my mom, my dad, and my brothers, i am a college student, i have a job.........alll addicts are different, i can be a manipulative jeckel/hide but i still love my family and friends...........ive only been using 2 years but im just saying...........heroin addicts are all different.........ive quit for 3 months after using for a year, its tough, and you get pretty sick.....granted, i never went to any clinics and got suboxone of methadone or any of that stuff................but i think that whoever you are talking a bout is a good person, they are just all mixed up and need the support of their family and freinds Go to an open meeting of narcotics anonymous and listen to what people have to share, you will hear all sorts of feelings and thoughts, honest ones. yes they have feelings and they can quit but are never completely cured . Most successful treatments include methadone. I've been an addict for about a year... I started trying to quit about 4 months ago... Ever smoked a joint? Its a calming feeling... now multiply that be 25 and that is what heroin is... The effects last for about a day, but this is truly a mental clock, its as effective as the user believes it is... The reason people say a day is because once a person sleeps, they kind of forget the feeling and strive for it again (in addition to the biological reasons of needing to replenish the opiates; pain killers for every sore and ache that naturally occur within the body; that heroin synthetically introduced and caused the body to no longer naturally produce)... Heroin is a bad bad drug, but it is possible to overcome... I was a prodigy throughout my youth and teen years, multimillionaire dot-com geek and all... drugs in general brought it all down... The reason people say its impossible to quit heroin is because once a person becomes addicted to the substance, everytime something feels bad or wrong, heroin is the sure escape from it... and until a decent amount of clean time is achieved (which is hard), heroin is always option #1 to make things feel better.... Additionally, I know the majority of the addiction is mental... its like for smokers, they have that "itch" until they get their cigarette; and whether they have a full one or a half one, they are much better at the end... |
