Is heroin really addictive?

I have met some people who are asking me to try heroin. They say they aren't addicts, that I can stop using it whenever I want to. They claim that it's going to give me happiness that I haven't felt before. I'm curious about it but I don't really want to try it.

Heroin is highly addictive! There are some persons who got addicted with just their first try. Heroin messes with the brain and it will affect the way you're going to think, act, and make decisions. It can make you prone to acquiring diseases such as HIV/AIDS. There are even some people who have died because of heroin.

Please don't give in to the pressure that those people are putting on you. A little rush of euphoria is nothing compared to what harm that drug can do. There are lots of things that you can do to experience happiness and a natural "high". You don't have to resort to taking any drugs at all to get that. I think you should stay away from those people who are asking you to try heroin.

No not additive at all. That is why people on heroin steal from their friends/family or prostitute themselves for a few bucks to get their hourly fix. That is why they are laying in a ditch or abandoned house right now with a rusty needle in their arm. That is why most heroin users end up pushing up daisies.

Chasing the dragon is not an addiction that can be stopped on command.

yup. it is very addictive. and its something you just can't stop when you want to stop using it. your body begins to depend on the drug such that when you stop it... your body craves for it and you develop nasty withdrawal symptoms. also, once your hooked, your body develops tolerance to the drug, hence you'll eventually be needing higher doses just to get your high.

These people don't know what happiness is if they are recommending heroin to experience it. Happiness comes from within, young grasshopper... the drug will only cloud your mind and obscure that true happiness. This sounds like silly kung-fu movie nonsense, but it is true.

Opiates are used today to fight pain, but never in heroin form--drugs like morphine, vicodin, oxycontin.

If you have legitimate pain, these drugs will fight it. However, if you do not, your body will take up the drug and you can get hooked very, very easily.

Stay away... this isn't just the "after-school special" type of recommendation; heroin is bad news through and through. Go rock climbing, trust me, you'll feel a serious buzz.

I suffered a severe injury at work and was in a great deal of pain. The attending physician said that heroin is probably the best pain reliever available but because it is so addictive, it is illegal in it's pure form. I was prescribed some opiate pain relievers and had to be weaned off of them because I got addicted even under medical supervision. If heroine is a stronger pain reliever than what I was using, I don't want to go through the withdrawal that would require.

They're lying. At best they want you to use it out of an immature need to validate their own stupid behavior. At worst they want to get you using it so they can get everything they can out of you.

This is something I never thought I'd have to answer! Read all the answers of the do gooders and they will say yes, it is sooo addictive so keep away from it as you will die a horrible death. Well I hate to agree with them, but it's true. Thinking of getting a job/husband/mortgage later in life? Then forget it if you take heroin. At the best, the most you can hope for is a life of methadone which is more addictive and a bigger killer than heroin. Drug users are liars. Has one of your friends lied recently? The one where they can stop at any time? Please don't. REALLY, please don't.

I don't think much of the people you're mixing with. In the UK heroin is a Class A drug which means possession of it carries a gaol term and dealing in it also:
(Ecstasy, LSD, heroin, cocaine, crack, magic mushrooms, amphetamines (if prepared for injection). Up to seven years in prison or an unlimited fine or both. Up to life in prison or an unlimited fine or both.)
Heroin is very addictive as it targets brain centres directly - you will find it very difficult to stop taking it by will power alone.
