Oxycontin is oxycodone, a prescription narcotic. Heroin is a very lipophilic drug that can cross the blood brain barrier and then is converted into morphine. This makes it much more powerful, since more of it can cross into your brain, making the effects increased. While both are narcotics, and created from opium, they are structurally and chemically different. Oxycodone is structurally more similar to codeine. Another, very important difference is that oxycodone is a Schedule II narcotic while heroin is a Schedule I narcotic. Illegal in the United States. Lastly, both can cause physical and psychological addiction, although heroin has an increased chance of doing so. |
