How many Americans have tried using heroin?

I was just wondering about this, since I've observed that I know quite a number of people who are using heroin, are being rehabilitated because of heroin, or those who have gotten over their heroin addiction.

According to the 2005 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, there were approximately 3.5 million Americans who have tried using heroin at least once in their lives. Approximately 379,000 reported past year heroin use and 136,000 reported past month heroin use. The results also showed that there were 108,000 persons aged 12 and older, who has used heroin for the first time.

These are, of course, statistics of year 2005. It has most probably have changed since then.
