Does a herniated disk heal itself?

6 years ago i had back surgery, and was diagnosed with a herniated disc, is there any way that surgery can be avoided? and what medications are the best ( i am currently taking prendozone)

I wouldn't recommend taking Prednisone for a long time.
You gain weight and your skin becomes more fragile.
Herniated disc is a general term for back pain with a specific cause.
HNP herniated nucleus pulposus is the condition when the jelly-like center of your disc is squeezed out like toothpaste into the spinal canal putting pressure on your nerves. A slipped disc is the entire disc sliding out from between vertebrae putting pressure on your nerves. Both are managed with physical therapy at the onset. If it worsens, surgery is indicated. It never heals, you only get used to the pain, less and less, everyday.
Physical therapy is designed to make your back stronger so the weight on your spine doesn't make matters worse.

Absolutely not. Once a disc is herniated, that's it. It will not "unherniate" itself. Surgery is an absolute last resort. Pain management and physical therapy, epidural shots are what's done until surgery becomes the only option. Contrary to the bull$hit that insurance companies and defense attorneys have been throwing around, herniated discs are very serious injuries. Broken bones heal themselves. Herniated discs do not.

I have a herniated disc also. I see a chiropractor once a month.

No, once you got it it's there for life or until you have it operated on. You can do other things like see a chiropractor, physio-therapy, message, yoga and/or meditation.
