I have a herniated disk at c6/c7 has anyone had a disk replacement? I am trying to decide Fusion or Replace? If you have not been diagnosed with a degeneration disease and are not likely to herniate any more disc, then I recommend that you replace. If you are chronic, fuse. REPLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i had one and it hurt like HE*L and you cant bend over as far!!!!! You more then likely need either one of these. Have you gone to an upper cervical chiropractor? www.uppercervicalcare.com Chiropractic works like this. You have nerves that supply everything in your body and act as the communication system between brain cell and tissue cell, and tissue cell and brain cell. That communication system has been disrupted in your lower cervical spine not allowing proper signals to go to the rest of your body. An upper cervical chiropractor will find this miscommunication or interference, correct it through a specific and analytical adjustment utilizing xrays, thermographic analysis, etc., and restore the communication to the system. Now, the herniated disc going away is a simply a byproduct of the natural healing power of the body being unlocked once that interference is removed. Does that make sense? Now, I do not know how bad the extent of your injury is, but I know that an Upper Cervical chiropractor can be of some help to you. I HAD to have fusion.........i have severe chronic scoliosis..............try replace before fusion!!!!!!! Fusion is a last resort!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck I have had two neck surgeries, and they fuse you when they work on the neck, they do not replace the disks, they take bone from your hip and fuse with the vertabrae in your neck. They will likely add a plate to the area, for extra stability, or if the surgery fails, the plate will hold things in place. My first surgery went fine, the second one failed. I have three levels fused, and am disabled at this point. You need to be aware of the risks of surgery, getting paralyzed was my biggest fear. Get a doctor that has done this surgery in their sleep, you want someone very well qualified, and someone that listens to you. Your problem is where the neck meets the shoulders, that was one of my areas as well. Mine is 4-7, I can't turn my head to the left as well as before, and I have chronic muscle spasms. Do not let a chiropractor work on you, we found out later that my chiro could have paralyzed me from the neck down, simply because he hadn't taken any new x-rays from the first time I was seen. Take care and good luck, I hope things work out for you. |
