Could pain in back be herniated disk?

I have alot of pain in my mid to lower back and ofcourse my upper back gets stiff more like that is the muslces. However lately its my mid to lower back that feels pain, and stiffness espcecially if I am active and that means going to the store walking for a period of time, lifting, standing...etc.
could this be something serious.

Back pain can be from many reasons, from muscle sprain to herniated disk to arthritis.

You need to be seen by a doctor and possibly run some tests to see if this is something serious or not. Discussing it without examination is pointless.

There are too many reasons why you might have back pain. You need to see a medical doctor. Have yourself checked and make sure nothing serious is going on.
