Hernia operation affecting intensity of orgasm??

My bf had a hernia operation 6 months ago, around the groin area. He is still experiencing pains. Apparently the doctor told him that the surgeon cut through some nerve (possibly cutaneous nerve, or so I learned from one Answer re: hernia) rather than cut around it because it was too difficult.

I don't know if it's psychological but my bf says his orgasm hasn't been the same. He says they haven't had the same intensity, although on the odd occassion he can experience that same intensity. The hernia was in the groin area. Not sure what type it was called.

Has any males experienced this? Just wondering if it is common, or wehther the surgeon have been less lazy? Or do they do this often, cut through things cos it's too difficult to cut around?

Basically....As a surgical med student, I must decide what is riskier. As hernia surgeries are considered common now, they can still be risky to the patient (as with any surgery). Therefore, it is the discretion of the surgeon to decide what will be the safer option for proceeding. In fact, it may have been possible that the surgeon had no choice but to cut it, as an attempted transection or displacement would have cuased the rupturing or the hernia itself, or even the severing of a vein or artery in the area.

So the second part of the answer is that yes, any type of nerve damage in that area can affect sexual performance.. This can really be anything from problems achieving erection or orgasm to the pleasure or intesity of the sexual experience. Personally, the nerve damage is likely inferior (below) the nerve branches for the penis, meaning that cutting that particular nerve should only affect things downstream of it, not affecting the orgams intensity. It is likely just a strange culminaiton of anatomical changes (hernia trauma, surgery trauma, etc.) in the area that are causing the problem.
