7) Does anyone know how much does it cost, i mean quote me the highest surgery fee for a hernia operation in a government hospital in Malaysia. (if u happen to be in Malaysia)

i need both professional(doctors) and non-professional answers on this. if some of u can only answer a few questions, no worries, please write too. thanx

1) I had a hernia at 22 and had it repaired. It can be treated and repaired and will not recur with minimal scar. You can, however develop other hernias in different locations of your groin throughout your life if you are prone to them. They are hereditary as well as occuring when you lift heavy things.
2) Yes, you can experience bloating but the telltail sign is that you have a protruding bump, usually marble-sized that is elevated and shows when you do activity and goes back in when laying down. This is your intestine protruding through a tear in your muscle.
3) Yes, you can experience discomfort/pain if moving around in different ways (bending down, etc.)
4) Once you are admitted, the surgery takes 2-3 hours only and you are asleep. Once you wake up, you will be given pain medication, bandage replacement information and sent home with friend/family. So you do not need to stay overnight. Time to recuperate and take out stitches is 1-2 weeks.
5) Surgery side effects are just like any other surgery side effects - you will have a scar that will heal over time. You will experience mild nausea/discomfort in the area however the area will be numb for a few months as the nerves begin to regrow so you shouldn't experience pain. You will not be able to do heavy lifting/ab workouts for several months since they will place a screen in your muscle to repair the hernia.
6) You will be able to do sit-ups after a few months and go back to all your regular activities with no problems
7) No information on Malaysia this comes from US hospital experience.

Good luck!

My father in law had a hernia operation last year and was only in overnight. The recovery period was about two weeks of not doing anything heavy.

Speak to your doctor. People on yahoo answers are usually quite uneducated on these medical problems. That would be my advice.

the next time, the next time you go to the health store get one of those hernia underwear appartatus.
