Questions Regarding Hernia !!!!!!?

I was recently diagnosed with a combined hernia. I have one in my belly button and one just above my belly button. My question is is that I get pain around the areas where my hernias are but the hernias themselves do not hurt.It hurt like the dickens 2 weeks ago and then started up today but not as bad. When it happened two weeks ago my stomach was sore like I had done 500 situps for several days afterward. Can anyone tell me if this is normal with a hernia? The hernias themselves are not protruding, hot to the touch, or even really sore its just around the hernias.

At this point the intestine is not poking through just a fatty layer is.And no it does not hurt to fart.

I ended up needing a hernia-repair surgery about 5 years ago. (I lifted a really heavy bag of rocks....and...ooops.)

You will need to have it surgically repaired, which they can do laparoscopically. They will put a mesh-like material in/along the hernia area, which will fortify that area...and your body will just repair around that mesh.

You'll be just fine once you've gotten it fixed.

The area around the hernia would be the sorest as that is the point where the muscle tore and allowed the intestine to poke through. As long as you can push the hernia back in, you're ok. If you can't, get to the doctor ASAP.

I expect that the belly button hernia that you mention is the same thing that the midwife or doctor might call an umbilical hernia. Don't worry, this is not a dangerous condition, and if your daughter needs any treatment at all it is likely to be only a small operation.

Umbilical hernia is common in all races, and it appears as a soft swelling covered in skin that protrudes during crying or straining. These are usually small and they are due to an imperfect closure or weakness of the muscles surrounding the umbilicus where the cord was attached.

Most umbilical hernias that appear before the age of six months will disappear spontaneously by the first birthday. Even quite large ones may resolve unaided by the age of five or six. Strapping up the hernia never works; it only serves to make the infant uncomfortable. Surgery will be required to repair the defect if the hernia is getting bigger, but if it is small and causing no problems, I should wait another year to see if it will resolve. If surgery is necessary, your daughter will only need to be in hospital for a few hours to have an anaesthetic and a fairly simple procedure. She is likely to recover amazingly quickly, and only have a little scar.

I hope this helps to allay your fears, as it really is nothing to worry about.

Yours sincerely

Does it hurt when you fart? Go see a doctor either yes or no.
