Does Chinese herbal medicine really work? i'm a patient myself.?

i was wondering if Chinese medicine work. i am asian and my parents are loyal to it. i drink it regularly. i drank it for my acne and to get rid of my toxins. it did help my acne and others have been cured by this. such as my dad's joints and my brother's skin problem. i'm not picking sides but i'm thinking it could be in their head.
