Interesting. Toxicodendron is poison ivy. It's used to treat Cellulitis and infections, carbuncles in early stages ( Echinac.) Rheumatism in the cold season, and. septicaemia. I didn't know that this was used medicinally. Again, interesting.

That is Poison Ivy so I am assuming it is a homeopathic remedy as you couldn't take this any other way but in homeopathic amounts.

Toxicodendron is a genus of woody trees, shrubs and vines in the Anacardiaceae or Sumac Family. All members of the genus produce the skin-irritating oil urushiol, which can cause a severe allergic reaction; hence the scientific name which means "poison tree".

Members of this genus are sometimes included in the genus Rhus.

They have pinnately compound, alternate leaves and whitish or grayish drupes. The best known member is poison-ivy, practically ubiquitous throughout much of eastern North America.

The plants are quite variable in appearance. The leaves may have smooth, toothed or lobed edges, and all three types of leaf edge may be present in a single plant. The plants grow as creeping vines, climbing vines, shrubs, or, in the case of Lacquer Tree and Poison Sumac, as trees. While leaves of Poison-ivy and poison-oaks usually have three leaflets, sometimes there are five or, occasionally, even seven leaflets. Leaves of Poison Sumac have 7-13 leaflets, and of Lacquer Tree, 7-19 leaflets.

The common names come from similar appearances to other species that are not closely related and to the allergic response to the urushiol. Poison-oak is not an oak (Quercus, family Fagaceae), but this common name comes from the leaves' resemblance to white oak (Quercus alba) leaves, while Poison-ivy is not an ivy (Hedera, family Araliaceae), but has a superficially similar growth form. Both Poison-oak and Poison-ivy are members of the sumac family, Anacardiaceae. Technically, the plants do not contain a poison; they contain a potent allergen.

The berries of certain species native to Japan and China, such as T. vernicifluum (Lacquer Tree) and T. succedaneum (Wax Tree), are used to

For more info do a Yahoo or altvista search in this plant.

Please remember that just because something is all natural or herbal does not mean it is necessarily good, effective, or useful for everyone or even anyone. We sold herbs and natural health and studied them a lot and I was horrified at the number of people who thought if it was natural that meant it was OK so I am glad you are checking.

Rhus Toxicodendron is actually not an herbal medicine. It is a homeopathic preparation of poison ivy. This means it is an incredibly dilute form of a particular plant and that there is no risk at all of overdose.

This particular remedy is often used for stiffness in the back and joints, as well as some rashes and skin conditions.
If she has had complaints of backache of stiffness at all, that's my guess as to why she would have it. However, she could have got it from a friend who has no idea what she talking about, and gave it to her for the wrong reason. In this case, you can just smile, because one beauty of homeopathic remedies is the impossibility of overdose, and that the effects are only negated when too much is taken!

I hope this helps!

It is used mostly for poison ivy.

I am not sure but i can tell you that it is a homeopathic remedy. If you look it up under that heading you would be sure to find it.
