Hepatitis C Help??!!?

my fiancee just told me that he had hepatitis C when he was Young I didn't really know what was it but when I google it . it scares me. dose he still have it . dose hepatitis C ever go away. well I be infected if I marry him??? and also he smock is it good for him. I want to task him to do a blood test ?? tell me what to do please??!!

It is possible that he no longer has Hep C.

When a person is infected with the virus that causes Hep C (HCV) two things will happen. Either their bodies clear the virus naturally during the primary infection phase, OR they become chronically infected and will carry the virus for life. It is important to mention that there is a treatment for Hep C that does seem to result in a "cure" (it helps the body to eradicate the infection) for a certain percentage of people (depending on the strain of Hep C they carry).

We are not sure exactly why or how the virus is cleared naturally, but we do know a few factors that may play into it:

- Age when infected:
40-45% of children born to hepatitis C infected mothers will spontaneously clear HCV. Other studies have shown that 70% of people below the age of 20 cleared the virus as opposed to 24% of those age 20 or older. SO if he was infected at a young age, he is more likely to have cleared the virus spontaneously

-Gender 鈥?
women seem to resolve acute infection more than men, but this data is controversial.

-Race --
according to the NHANES III study, only 14% of black men were able to spontaneously clear the virus as opposed to 32% of Caucasians.

Hepatitis C is not likely to transmit during sexual intercourse (although it does in a very small percentage of cases.....in many of those cases the people were also infected with HIV which may play a larger part). Because of this Hep C isn't listed as a sexually transmitted infection.

If you are this concerned, I would suggest that you both go in together for Hep C testing (a simple blood test). Even if he is infected there is a good chance that you won't be. But either way, it is important to find out about as soon as possible so that you can get medical care and look at Hep C treatment to (hopefully) rid yourself of the virus.

Smoking isn't good for anyone, but it isn't necessarily a huge concern with Hep C. Though smoking causes cancer and one of the late complications of chronic hep C infection is liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, but I'm not sure there is too strong a link between the two.

I'm really sorry you got this news. Hep C is a nasty disease--I have lost a loved one to it.

It is not generally classified as an STD, though it can be transmitted sexually. It is blood-borne, however, so you have to be cautious.

In your shoes, I would strongly encourage him to see a (preferably university-based) hepatologist who specializes in hep C. He needs to know what's going on in his body. There are treatments to keep viral load low and prevent some of the very, very scary sequelae of the disease.

You can get good guidance once you know what you are dealing with.

I don't think testing alone is enough.

wellllllllllll....... you love him, does that even matter, so why are u now having second thoughts, and yes hepatitius does not go away, he will always be affected by it, now stop asking stupid questions and stand by the man that u love and tell him that even though he has it you will be there 100%
