Hepatitis B vaccine...?

should I take a blood exame before being vaccinated by hepatitis B vaccine. to be sure of not being infected by hepatitis B?

It is standard practice in this county's health dept to test for antibodies to hepatitis B (HBV). If you already have the antibodies, then you don't need the vaccine. I'm not sure if private Primary care doctors test before vaccination. If you were to get the vaccine and already had the virus, it wouldn't hurt you; it would just be unnecessary.

No. I got it a while and ago and have given it to my patients and never check.

If you think you might have been exposed to it then yes have your doc's office run a liver panel or test for a titer aganist HepB, that should only take a few days.

If everything comes back okay, then go ahead w/ the vaccine.

There is also a vaccine for HepA now too, if you are going into the medical profession I would consider asking for it as well.

Best of health to ya!
