Hepatitis C from bottles of tattoo ink?

I really want to get permanent makeup tattoo. But, I am concerned of catching hepatitis C from the bottles in which they store the ink.
What are the chances of catching hepatitis C from the bottles of ink? Am I being overly concerned?

No, you are not being overly concerned; you are very smart to think about this because that is a risk factor for Hep c, although now tattoo artists are supposed to pour your ink into a small container that is used only for you, and when your tat is done, it is thrown out. Make sure you go to a clean, licensed tattoo parlor; no homemade tattoos or tattoo parties (yes, people do have tattoo parties!). If you're not sure, ask the tattoo artist to explain how they prevent the spread of disease. He/ she should be able to put your fears to rest; if not, walk away!

Great best answer! My skin crawls over the though as posted below about taking home a needle.

This would get any tattoo shop closed down if the dept of health knew about it! Used needles only belong in sharps containers the moment they are removed from the machine! There are NO OTHER options. Report It

Go to a very reputable cosmetic Tatooist and question them on their 'Health' methods/standards. It is not unreasonable for you to ask for new bottles to be opened and put into containers for your specific use, this should be standard practice anyway. They should also sell you brand new needles for the work and you take them with you when you go, if you choose to have any additional work done you can take these needles back with you to be used. I would suggest buying new one's each time.
If all precautions are taken by you to ensure the maximum standards are followed by the practitioner you should have no problems.
"An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure".

it is very unlikely you would get hep c or any type or disease from tatoo's anymore including permanent make up. For starters you will have your own needles and as far as the ink goes you will end up with your own little container that the ink will go into for use only on you. No reputitable artist would dip their needle into the "refil bottle". In most states the person has to be licenced in order to do it so ask to see their licences, and before you allow them to ink you make sure you have your own ink and needles and you should will be fine.
