Do I have hepatitis B?

After giving birth, I had test done which included the hepatitis B test. My test papers showed my hepatitis B test was positive. But when I left the hospital after giving birth they told me that all my test were negative and I'm free to leave.

My gynocologist has no record of me being Hepatitis B Positive.

Does this mean I am immune? Was it a typo(mistake)?

I believe I had the vaccine when I was younger but I dont remember.

The test for Hepatitis B is rather confusing because it consists of a few parts.

I have a theory as to why you were told you were positive for the virus...

The Hepatitis B surface antibody is reported and is an indicator of immunity to the virus. It can be due to the vaccination or due to clearance of the natural infection. Perhaps someone who didn't understand the test well told you that you were "positive" due to this part of the test...

However, if your Hepatitis B test was "positive", indicating that you had a current or past infection, this wouldn't be a reason to keep you in the hospital. Besides, there is a significant chance that if you had a past infection, you cleared it.

I suspect that you were tested for Hep B as it is routine to test women for the virus before giving birth as it has an impact on the baby. Children are more likely than adults to have a chronic liver infection.

Regardless, testing for Hepatitis B is an easy blood test to order. Your physician can have the result inside of 3-4 days.

Good luck.

Well pregnacy can cause a lot of things, but I have never heart of hepatitis going awaw and you can get if from saliva drinking from another persons glass or kissing ect. If you are now testing negative than I do not believe that you had it in the first place. Go to a dr. and get the test done again and make sure you are negative. If you are negative than yes I do believe that it was a test error. Hepatitis affects the liver so you should probably have your liver tested, Take care Heather
