Why does the platelet count go down when a person has dengue fever? (not dengue hemorrhagic fever)?

the virus mailnly affects new platelet production. normally, platelets live for 4 days and gets replenished... out ablility to form a platelet plug or clot is hindered and thus the risk of hemorrhage.
