What is the average years for hemodialysis patient to receive dialysis? |
My mom is 74 and has been on dialysis for over 10 years. She is experiencing complications now. She is a diabetic and almost completely blind. We think she had a seizure this weekend and I am looking for any answers about dialysis complications after so many years. Anyone with knowledge please give me any suggestions for what is ahead after 10+ years on hemodialysis. i am so sorry to ear about your mom. i was on dialysis for 3 years till i received my transplant. there were people that had been on it for years. this one man had been on it for 15 years but he was starting to have problems. everyone is different on how the respond to dialysis. it sounds like you r mom has done well until now. i will pray for her because i know how it feels to be on those treatment and what it does to your body and your mind. give her a huge hug from me. god bless her. sadly, it is very starining and there is breakdowns that occur as the years go on, sight is one due to microscopic blood vessels in the eyes..they take all her blood out 3x a week and put it thru filters, imagine the damage...my advice is have her stay on a strict diet and fluid regime as prescribed, that makes it less stressful for her body. if they take 8 lbs or more her whole body, heart, arteries, veins etc have to readapt in size and function to that fluid volume...imagine the stress on the body! (I worked in the O.R. with vascular surgeons so I know the deal well!) |
