Why is hemodialysis required every two to three days for eight to ten hours/day?

Consider Flow rate of blood through the dialyzer is 150-300 mL/min.

Most patients have 3 sessions a weeks lasting 3-4 hrs each usually. They need these to rid the body of toxins and excess fluid that accumulate when their kidneys do not work efficiently. If you try to get rid of all of that fluid too quickly the patient will have a drop in blood pressure which could cause other problems.

to get rid of the junk in your blood

Is this a math question or are you wanting to understand the mechanics of dialysis?

It usually lasts 3-4 hours, not 8-10.

The reason for this is because the kidney filters waste and toxins out of the blood, and when they don't work, that bad stuff builds up and can cause brain and end-organ damage.
